Irondale Youth Football Season Update (8/11/2020)

Dear Irondale Youth Football Families:

We would like to express our thanks and gratitude for your patience and understanding as the board has evaluated the current conditions and whether or not to proceed with tackle football this fall. A lot has developed over the past weeks – we learned how the state and district plan to return to school, that high school football and volleyball have been moved to a special spring season, and that many college conferences are either canceling or postponing fall sports because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yesterday our 3rd thru 6th grade league (MEYFL) canceled the fall season because of health concerns and the low-likelihood that a complete and successful season could occur. Based on this information and many other considerations, our board unanimously voted that Irondale Youth Football will not be competing in tackle football this fall.

Your responses to the survey spoke loud and clear – a significant majority of you wanted to play some sort of football and hone football skills. Others expressed that given the current conditions they would rather not participate at all. We respect your decision, whatever it may be.

Based on your feedback we are offering two options for registration refunds:

  1. A partial refund for those that wish to attend clinics that include strength and skill development and low-contact competition (e.g., 7 v 7 passing, razzle, etc.). Coach Fuller and his staff will be helping with these activities starting the week of September 21 through October 22 (approximately 2 days each week and no weekends). For those of you that wish to do this, you do not need to do anything more at this time. More details will be shared over the coming weeks, including partial refund amount and COVID protocols for the clinic.
  2. A complete refund for those that want to opt-out entirely for the season. What we need you to do is email our registration coordinator at iyfootballregister@gmail.com indicating that you are opting out completely for the season and would like your registration fees refunded. We ask that you make this request by August 24.

We know that you probably have a lot of questions and that one email from the board will not answer them all, so please feel free to contact a board member if you’d like to discuss further. We know times are tough, but better days lie ahead. Take care of yourselves and be tolerant and understanding of those around you, we are all in this together!

Sincerely,

IYFA Board
